Global Rights for Women is working with women’s advocates in Armenia to explore strategies for more effective advocacy on women’s human rights and the country’s draft domestic violence law. Following a successful trip in November, 2014, Cheryl Thomas returned to Armenia in March, 2015, with our expert trainer, Julie Tilley of Praxis International. They presented a workshop aimed at building the capacity of local advocates and stakeholders to garner public support for the proposed domestic violence law and lobby successfully for it’s passage in parliament. Although advocates have been promoting a draft law on domestic violence for many years, Armenia is one of the few remaining countries in the Eastern Europe/Former Soviet Union region that has not passed this type of legislation. This work is supported by the Open Society Institute in Budapest.
